S. Korea Confirms 60th Bird Flu Case at Jangsu Duck Farm

Seoul: South Korea has confirmed a new case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI) at a poultry farm, increasing the total number of cases this season to 60, officials announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the H5 strain was detected at a duck farm in Jangsu County, located in North Jeolla Province, approximately 250 kilometers south of Seoul. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters reported the discovery.

Authorities have implemented measures to control access to the farm and are in the process of culling about 12,000 birds. They are also conducting an investigation into the case.

In response to the outbreak, a 24-hour standstill order has been issued for areas surrounding the farm. Additionally, the government has initiated a special inspection of poultry farms nationwide this month to prevent further spread, coinciding with the seasonal migration of birds toward the end of winter.
