Nagoya: The foreign ministry announced Thursday that a joint government rapid response team will be sent to Nagoya, Japan, during the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games to address incidents involving South Korean nationals.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the nine-member team is composed of officials from the foreign ministry, the National Intelligence Service, and the National Counter-Terrorism Center. The team will be stationed in Nagoya from Thursday through October 4. Their mission is to prevent incidents involving South Koreans, establish a cooperation system with local security authorities, and monitor security and terrorism trends.
As the number of South Koreans visiting Nagoya is expected to increase significantly during this year's Chuseok holiday, the team will also conduct safety checks around competition venues and major tourist attractions. The ministry emphasized the importance of promoting safe overseas travel and assured that prompt consular assistance will be available in the event of any incidents.
