Seoul: South Korea's state-run arms procurement agency said Tuesday it has finalized a plan to upgrade the amphibious assault ship ROKS Dokdo with a new combat system and radar for enhanced defense capabilities. According to Yonhap News Agency, under the plan endorsed on Thursday, the 14,000-ton vessel will be equipped with an advanced combat system and software designed to improve the ship's operation of anti-ship missiles and anti-aircraft artillery. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has detailed that the plan also involves replacing the ship's Dutch-developed radar with a homegrown fixed multipurpose Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar and updating its infrared search and detection equipment. The ROKS Dokdo, which has primarily been used for the transportation of troops and equipment, was delivered to the Navy in 2007.
