Samsung Chairman to Receive Significant Share Donation from Mother

Tunis:Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong is poised to receive 2.6 trillion won (US$1.94 billion) in shares from his mother, as announced by the tech giant on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hong Ra-hee, Lee's mother, will donate approximately 11.16 million shares in Samsung Electronics, valued at 2.6 trillion won, on November 12.

This donation will increase Lee's stake in the company from 1.58 percent to 1.75 percent. The move follows Hong's recent sale of a 0.11 percent stake in Samsung Electronics to Lee, worth 1.9 trillion won, which was part of a strategy to repay loans used to settle inheritance taxes after the 2020 death of her husband, former Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee.
