Seoul: Samsung EandA Co. announced it has secured a 4.7 trillion-won (US$3.5 billion) engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract to build a fertilizer plant in Saudi Arabia. The contract marks a significant milestone for the engineering and construction arm of Samsung Group, which has partnered with SABIC Agri-Nutrients, the fertilizer division of the Saudi petrochemical giant SABIC, for this ambitious project.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the planned facility will be constructed in Jubail Industrial City, located in eastern Saudi Arabia. The project is slated for completion by 2030 and aims to significantly boost fertilizer production in the region. Once operational, the plant is expected to produce 3,500 tons of ammonia and 7,700 tons of urea fertilizer daily, all of which will be destined for export markets.
Samsung EandA highlighted the plant's innovative use of a carbon capture system, which will allow the facility to repurpose carbon dioxide generated during ammonia production to create urea fertilizer. This technology is intended to reduce emissions while enhancing production efficiency, aligning with global sustainability goals.
