Samsung Heavy’s Orders Top US$10 Bln This Year With Oil Tanker Deal

Samsung: Samsung Heavy Industries Co. said Wednesday it has secured a 284.9 billion-won (US$188.5 million) order for two oil tankers, pushing its cumulative orders for this year above US$10 billion for the first time in five years.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Korean shipbuilder revealed that the vessels were ordered by a shipowner based in the Bermuda region and are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by May 2029. This significant contract adds to the company's growing portfolio, marking a substantial achievement in its business operations.

With this latest contract, Samsung Heavy Industries has secured orders for 32 commercial vessels and two floating liquefied natural gas facilities, collectively valued at $10 billion. This achievement represents 72 percent of the company's annual order target, highlighting a strong performance in the global shipbuilding market.

The milestone is notable for Samsung Heavy Industries, as it marks the first time the company's annual orders have exceeded $10 billion since 2021. This resurgence in order volume underscores the company's strategic efforts to capture a larger share of the maritime construction industry.
