PARIS — South Korean climber Seo Chae-hyun finished sixth in the women's combined sport climbing event at the Paris Olympics on Saturday. Despite a challenging start in the bouldering session, Seo managed to improve her performance in the lead climbing but could not bridge the gap to the top contenders.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Seo accumulated a total of 105.0 points across the bouldering and lead events held at Le Bourget Sport Climbing Venue. She ranked fourth in the lead component with 76.1 points but struggled in bouldering, finishing last with 28.9 points. Seo's overall performance was not enough to contend for a podium position, leaving her 42.4 points behind the bronze medal winner.
Seo, who previously competed at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics where sport climbing made its debut, was seen as a strong contender due to her rankings—third in the world for lead climbing and eighteenth for bouldering. This Olympic cycle was different from Tokyo, as the speed discipline was held separately, allowing athletes to focus more on the technical aspects of bouldering and lead climbing.
The gold medal went to Slovenia's Janja Garnbret, who scored 168.5 points, marking her second consecutive Olympic win. The silver medal was claimed by Brooke Raboutou of the United States with 156.0 points, showcasing strong performances across the events.
