Seongnam Incident: Truck Collision Disrupts Gyeongbu Expressway Traffic

Seongnam, South Korea - A major traffic accident occurred on the Gyeongbu Expressway in Seongnam, involving a collision between two large trucks that led to extensive traffic congestion during the morning rush hour.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the incident happened at 6 a.m. near the Pangyo junction, when a 25-ton cargo truck and a 20-ton dump truck carrying sand collided on the Seoul-bound roadway. The collision resulted in the trucks overturning and spilling a substantial quantity of sand across the highway, necessitating a significant cleanup operation.

The drivers, one in his 60s and the other in his 40s, sustained injuries of varying degrees and were promptly transported to a hospital for medical attention. The aftermath of the accident saw a considerable portion of the expressway closed to traffic, with disruptions extending over a six to seven-kilometer stretch.

Efforts to clear the roadway and restore normal traffic flow were projected to last at least an hour, as investigators worked to ascertain the specifics of the accident. The impact on commuters was substantial, underscoring the challenges of managing traffic safety and emergency responses on one of the country's busiest highways.
