Seoul: South Korea will provide US$2 million in humanitarian assistance to conflict-hit Lebanon, the foreign ministry announced Thursday. This initiative aims to support the Lebanese population affected by the recent escalation of violence in the region.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the assistance will be financed through an emergency overseas assistance program managed by the state-run Korea International Cooperation Agency. The aid package will also include contributions from non-governmental organizations and private companies. The ongoing conflict, marked by Israel's expanded strikes into southern Lebanon and Beirut, has resulted in nearly 1,000 casualties and displaced almost 1 million people.
The foreign ministry expressed hope that the forthcoming financial assistance would alleviate the hardships faced by civilians caught in the conflict. The ministry also emphasized the potential for this aid to contribute to restoring normalcy in Lebanon.
