PARIS — South Korean shooter Kim Ye-ji secured a silver medal in the women's 10-meter air pistol event at the Paris Olympics but remains focused on achieving gold. Competing at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre in Chateauroux, Kim expressed her determination to not settle for second place despite her high achievement.
According to Yonhap News Agency, her performance, scoring 241.3 points which would have set a new Olympic record, fell short against her compatriot Oh Ye-jin, who clinched gold with 243.2 points. Kim, aged 31 and currently holding the world record in the 25-meter pistol event, has her sights set on upcoming competitions where she aims to fulfill her gold medal aspirations. She will next compete in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event on Monday, followed by her main event, the 25-meter pistol, on Friday.
Despite her disappointment at not securing the top podium position this time, Kim remains optimistic and praised the emergence of younger talent like Oh. She emphasized the importance of nurturing new athletes to ensure the continued growth and popularity of the shooting sport.
