SK Telecom and Ericsson Partner to Develop AI-Driven Mobile Network and 6G Tech

Seoul: SK Telecom Co. announced a strategic partnership with Sweden-based telecommunications giant Ericsson to co-develop artificial intelligence (AI)-driven mobile network technologies and further the development of sixth-generation (6G) communication technology.

According to Yonhap News Agency, under a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), the two companies will establish a cooperative framework aimed at supporting the ongoing evolution of network technologies. This partnership will focus on promoting practical applications of innovative technologies in existing fifth-generation (5G) environments, while simultaneously laying the groundwork for future 6G research and standardization.

The collaboration will emphasize joint research and validation of advanced network technologies, including AI-based radio access networks (AI-RAN), enhancements to 5G technology, open and autonomous networks, security measures, and the standardization of 6G. SK Telecom's head of network technology, Yu Tak-ki, highlighted the partnership as a key driver for the evolution of AI-based networks and a critical foundation for advancing into the 6G era.
