Son Heung-min Scores Ninth Goal of Season in Dramatic Draw with Manchester City

SEOUL - Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min has climbed to third place in the Premier League scoring race following a goal and an own goal in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City. In the match at Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England, Son scored the opening goal just six minutes into the game, marking his ninth goal of the season. However, he also scored an own goal shortly after.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Son's goal came from a counterattack where he received a long pass from Dejan Kulusevski. Son's strike made him the first player in Premier League history to score away goals against four reigning champions, previously achieving this against Leicester City, Chelsea, and Liverpool. His ninth goal put him ahead of Jarrod Bowen of West Ham United in the scoring charts.

This season, Son has scored nine goals in just 14 matches, approaching his eighth consecutive season with double-figure goals. However, Tottenham's lead was short-lived as Son inadvertently scored an own goal from Erling Haaland's attempt, joining Gareth Barry as the second player in the Premier League to score a goal and an own goal within the first 10 minutes of a match.

Manchester City gained the lead with a goal from Phil Foden, but Tottenham equalized with a goal from Giovani Lo Celso, assisted by Son. Jack Grealish later put Manchester City ahead again, but a header from Kulusevski in the 90th minute, off a Brennan Johnson cross, brought the score to 3-3. This dramatic day in the Premier League saw a record 24 goals across five matches.

Son expressed pride in his team's resilience and highlighted the significance of the point earned against Manchester City. He praised Kulusevski's equalizer and remained philosophical about his own goal, emphasizing the unpredictability of football. Son, who trails Mohamed Salah of Liverpool by one goal and is behind Haaland's 14 goals, was voted Man of the Match by fans. Tottenham, following this draw, remains fifth in the league with 27 points.
