Nagoya:South Korea: South Korea defeated Chinese Taipei to secure a spot in the quarterfinals of men's volleyball at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, outside hitter Heo Su-bong led the team with 18 points, while opposite Im Dong-hyeok contributed 16 points. South Korea won the match 3-1 (24-26, 25-10, 25-15, 25-23) at Park Arena Komaki, located just north of Nagoya, the main host city.
The victory marks South Korea's second consecutive win, and they are set to face China on Tuesday with the opportunity to win Pool D. Both South Korea and China have each won their first two matches.
In their quest to return to the podium after finishing seventh in 2023, South Korea initially struggled with serve receive, dropping the first set. However, they recovered with strong serving in the second and third sets. In the fourth set, trailing 22-21, Heo's spike and Lee Sang-hyeon's block turned the score to 23-22. Although Chinese Taipei tied the score, South Korea secured the final two points to win the match.
