Toyohashi:South Korea's baseball team is targeting its fifth consecutive gold medal as they face Japan in the Asian Games final. The game is scheduled for Sunday at 630 p.m. in Toyohashi, approximately 85 kilometers from Nagoya.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean team, managed by Ryu Ji-hyun and composed of top players from the Korea Baseball Organization, advanced to the final after defeating China 9-2 in the Super Round. This victory followed a 5-0 loss to Japan, who will be their opponents in the final. Japan secured their spot by defeating Chinese Taipei 7-3.
On the same day, South Korea's women's handball team will also compete against Japan for the gold medal. Their match is set for 6 p.m. at Entrio in Inazawa. Both teams remain undefeated, each with five wins, in the round-robin tournament, which will determine medals based on final standings.
South Korea has a strong history in women's handball at the Asian Games, winning the first five gold medals since its inclusion in 1990 and six of the first seven. However, they lost to Japan 29-19 in the 2023 final.
In other events, high jumper Woo Sang-hyeok is seeking his first Asiad title. Despite being a two-time silver medalist, Woo has faced challenges this season due to a foot injury sustained in May, affecting his performance since his return in August.
