POCHEON, SOUTH KOREA — South Korea and the United States are currently conducting a combined live-fire exercise near the inter-Korean border, featuring U.S. Stryker combat vehicles and South Korean military forces. The exercise, which started on July 22 at the Rodriguez Live Fire Complex approximately 30 kilometers south of the Demilitarized Zone, is set to conclude on Saturday, as per the U.S. 8th Army.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this two-week drill aims to assess the combat readiness of the rotational U.S. unit at the company level. It marks the first instance of such exercises being conducted jointly with South Korean forces, previously held solely by the U.S. The drills also aim to enhance the brigade’s adaptability to local terrain and weather conditions while integrating South Korean military equipment and tactics. The Stryker unit, part of a regular nine-month rotation that started in 2022, replaced an armored unit previously equipped with M1 Abrams tanks and M2 Bradley fighting vehicles.
