South Korea Calls for Compliance with Data Protection Laws by Chinese E-commerce Giants

SEOUL: The Personal Information Protection Commission of South Korea has formally requested major Chinese online retailers to adhere strictly to South Korean data protection laws. According to Yonhap News Agency, during a meeting in Beijing, PIPC Vice Chairperson Choi Jang-hyuk emphasized the importance of compliance for companies like AliExpress and Temu, which have become significant players in the South Korean market. This move comes as digital consumer rights become increasingly prioritized in the country’s regulatory agenda.
