South Korea Clarifies Intent of Democracy Summit Amid Chinese ConcernsKim Ha-seong Embraces Role as MLB Ambassador Ahead of Historic Seoul Series

SEOUL - In the face of objections from China, South Korea's foreign ministry has asserted that the ongoing third Summit for Democracy in Seoul is not targeting any specific nation, amid heightened sensitivities over Taiwan's involvement.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The foreign ministry's spokesperson, Lim Soo-suk, emphasized during a press briefing that the summit, which aims to bolster democratic governance and address authoritarian trends globally, is not directed at any particular country. This statement came after China expressed its discontent over Taiwan's participation, urging South Korea to respect the "One China" policy. Despite these pressures, Taiwan's Digital Affairs Minister Audrey Tang delivered a video message at the summit, designated as a private individual. South Korea maintained its commitment to diplomatic protocols while facilitating inclusive dialogue on democracy, with prior consultations conducted with concerned nations regarding participation and representation at the event.

Seoul - As the Major League Baseball (MLB) season opener in Seoul approaches, San Diego Padres' South Korean shortstop Kim Ha-seong is ready to shift his focus back to the game after fulfilling various ambassadorial roles.

According to Yonhap News Agency, he has been actively engaging in promotional activities, including media talks, youth clinics, and guiding his teammates through Seoul. These responsibilities, while demanding, were carried out with a sense of national pride as Kim prepares for the Padres' matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers, marking MLB's debut in South Korea.

Kim, in the final year of his contract, is set to build on his recent success, having won the National League Gold Glove. He is now gearing up to face Mookie Betts of the Dodgers, another esteemed Gold Glover, albeit Kim humbly deflects direct comparisons, focusing instead on his performance and team contribution.

The upcoming Seoul Series, while initially centered around Kim's homecoming, has expanded its narrative with the Dodgers' acquisition of Shohei Ohtani, creating a broader spectacle for local fans and international audiences alike.

Despite potential shifts in attention, Kim remains honored by the MLB's presence in Seoul and is eager to contribute to his team's success, especially following the Padres' strategic lineup adjustments and roster enhancements for the 2024 season. With a reinforced team spirit and shared goals, Kim and the Padres are optimistic about the forthcoming season and their prospects in the highly competitive MLB landscape.
