Inazawa:Nagoya: South Korea emerged victorious in the women's handball competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, capturing the gold medal after defeating host nation Japan.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea secured the win by beating Japan 27-23 in the sixth and final round of the competition held in Inazawa, near Nagoya. This victory ended South Korea's eight-year gold medal drought in the Asian Games.
The competition format did not include a knockout stage. Instead, each of the seven participating teams played one another once, with medals awarded based on the final round-robin standings. South Korea finished with a perfect record of six wins, narrowly surpassing Japan, which had five wins and one loss.
Before the decisive match, both South Korea and Japan were undefeated, each with five victories. This final match was a rematch of the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games event, where South Korea had previously lost to Japan 29-19.
