South Korea Commits to Supporting Petroleum and Petrochemical Exporters Amid Market Challenges.

Seoul: The industry ministry of South Korea announced its commitment to assist petroleum and petrochemical firms in overcoming export difficulties, which have been exacerbated by fluctuations in crude prices and disruptions in shipping. According to Yonhap News Agency, the announcement follows a significant decline in exports, with petroleum product shipments falling 18.7 percent to $3.7 billion, and petrochemical goods decreasing by 5.6 percent to $3.6 billion year-on-year in November. These declines have been attributed to the global downturn in crude prices. Local refiners have also been affected by delays in product shipping due to adverse weather conditions encountered in late November. Vice Industry Minister Park Sung-taek stated that the exports of petroleum and petrochemical products, which represent 15 percent of South Korea's total exports, are facing unexpected challenges due to these market conditions. Park emphasized the government's role in supporting local businesses by implementing measures , such as streamlining the process for lending reserve oil to companies when needed, to help them navigate these challenges.
