South Korea Intensifies Collaboration with China to Combat Fine Dust Pollution

Seoul, South Korea – Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has stated that the South Korean government will enhance cooperation and information sharing with China to tackle the issue of fine dust pollution. This initiative is part of a broader effort to address environmental concerns in the region.

According to Yonhap News Agency, During a special committee meeting on the fine dust issue, Han unveiled plans to intensify the collaborative relationship with China. This decision emerges amid concerns that fine dust concentration levels may rise again as social and economic activities in China return to pre-pandemic levels.

The government's strategy includes monitoring and controlling major sources of fine dust emissions, developing countermeasures against foreign influxes of pollutants, and improving air quality in daily life environments, such as schools. China is frequently cited as a primary source of fine dust that affects air quality in South Korea. A 2018 survey by the environment ministry indicated that 51.7 percent of respondents believed most of the fine dust in South Korea originated from China and other countries.
