South Korea Misses Gold at Asian Games for the First Time, Earns Silvers in Shooting, Kurash, and Diving

Tokyo:South Korea did not add any gold medals to its tally at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, marking the first time the country has gone without a gold since the medal race began on September 20.

According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea remains in third place on the medal table with 21 golds, trailing host nation Japan by 20 gold medals, while China leads with 132 golds. On Monday, South Korea secured silver medals in shooting, diving, and kurash.

The women's 25-meter pistol team, consisting of Yang Ji-in, Oh Ye-jin, and Bong Seo-rin, won silver with 1,735 points, finishing eight points behind China. Yang, who was leading in the individual qualification, made a costly mistake during the rapid-fire stage, scoring zero points and missing the individual final.

In diving, held in Tokyo, Kim Yeong-nam earned silver in the men's 1m springboard, ending China's streak of six consecutive 1-2 finishes in the event. Kim's score of 373.30 points placed him second behind China's Wang Zongyuan. Kim Su-ji also claimed bronze in the women's 1m springboard for her second medal of the Games.

Mo Su-min secured South Korea's first kurash medal, taking silver in the women's 78-kilogram category after losing to Uzbekistan's Pokizakhon Kamoldinova. Despite the defeat, Mo became the first South Korean woman to win an Asiad medal in kurash.

In badminton, world No. 1 An Se-young advanced to the women's singles final, aiming to become the first shuttler to win consecutive Asiad titles. Lee So-hee and Baek Hana also reached the women's doubles final. South Korea earned bronzes in the men's doubles and singles events.

The women's sepaktakraw team took bronze after losing to Vietnam in the semifinals. In athletics, the men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Seo Min-jun, Joel Jin Nwamadi, Lee Jae-seong, and Daniel Biwesa, set a national record with a time of 38.43 seconds to win bronze.
