SEOUL — Following the confirmation of more cases of African swine fever, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has mandated immediate containment measures to address the outbreak in southeastern South Korea.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The prime minister's directive was issued after the sixth case of the virus was confirmed at a pig farm in Yecheon County, located 161 kilometers southeast of Seoul. The virus, which is lethal to pigs but poses no threat to human health, has prompted the government to implement stringent controls, including culling of the affected livestock, a standstill order to prevent the spread, and detailed epidemiological analysis to track the outbreak's origins and containment progress, according to a statement from the prime minister's office.
