CHUNGJU: South Korea has confirmed an additional case of lumpy skin disease in cattle, bringing the total number of cases this year to 15, according to an announcement by the agriculture ministry. The new case was identified at a farm in Chungju, located approximately 147 kilometers south of Seoul. According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has responded to the outbreak by issuing a 24-hour standstill order. This mandate applies to personnel and vehicles associated with the affected farm and facilities in six neighboring regions. The government has also committed to deploying all available disinfection vehicles to curb the spread of the disease. Lumpy skin disease is a highly contagious condition that impacts cattle and buffalo, characterized by skin lesions, fever, and loss of appetite. The disease can lead to reduced milk production and, in severe cases, death. It is primarily transmitted through mosquitoes and other blood-feeding insects.
