Nagoya:South Korea managed to win two silver and three bronze medals in judo at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Friday, though they did not add another gold to their tally.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Min-ju secured a silver medal in the women's -78-kilogram category after losing in the final to Japan's Mizuki Sugimura by hansoku-make, which is a disqualification. The match, held at Aichi International Arena, went into sudden-death overtime after Kim received two shidos, or yellow cards, and Sugimura one. Kim was handed her third shido in the second minute, resulting in the disqualification.
In the women's +78kg final, Lee Hyeon-ji also took silver after losing to China's Niu Xinran by ippon, a full point. Lee had earlier scored a yuko, the smallest score, but was unable to stop Niu's leg hook, which led to the decisive ippon.
The South Korean team further secured three bronze medals. Kim Jong-hoon achieved this in the men's -90kg category, Han Ju-yeop in the men's -100kg, and Kim Min-jong in the men's +100kg.
The day before, Huh Mimi had won South Korea's first judo gold medal in the women's -57kg category.
