Tokyo:South Korea achieved a significant milestone by winning a bronze medal in the mixed 4x100-meter medley relay at the Asian Games. This marks their second consecutive bronze in this event.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the team consisting of Kim Seung-won, Choi Dong-yeol, An Se-hyeon, and Kim Young-beom set a new national record with a time of 3:44.12. They finished behind China and Japan, who clocked in at 3:40.38 and 3:43.98, respectively, at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.
The previous national record of 3:46.78 was set during the last Asian Games in 2023. Kim Young-beom's performance in Tokyo has been outstanding, as he now holds four medals, including a gold in the men's 50m freestyle, a silver in the 100m freestyle, and a bronze in the men's 4x100m medley relay.
Kim Seung-won secured her third medal of the competition with this relay bronze, having earlier won bronze in the women's 100m backstroke. Choi Dong-yeol also took part in the men's 4x100m medley relay, while An Se-hyeon, at 30, claimed her fourth career Asian Games medal, having previously been part of the 2018 bronze-winning team in the same event.
The morning heats saw Lee Eun-ji, Park Si-eun, Kim Ji-hun, and Hwang Sun-woo contribute to the team's success, earning them bronze medals as well. Hwang's medal tally in Tokyo now stands at five, including a silver in the men's 200m freestyle.
