South Korean Chief Justice Criticizes Presidential Intervention in Court Nominations

Seoul:South Korean Chief Justice has stated that the presidential office and National Assembly's request to recommend a court justice is a violation of the Constitution. This issue has been highlighted across multiple major South Korean newspapers, reflecting a significant constitutional concern.

According to Yonhap News Agency, several major Korean-language dailies, including Kyunghyang Shinmun, Donga Ilbo, and Seoul Shinmun, reported on the Chief Justice's assertion that such requests from the presidential office are unconstitutional. This sentiment was echoed in Segye Times and Chosun Ilbo, which also emphasized the unconstitutional nature of the president's request.

Additionally, JoongAng Ilbo and Hankyoreh highlighted the Chief Justice's criticism of presidential intervention in top court nominations, describing it as a breach of constitutional principles. These views were similarly reported by Maeil Business Newspaper.

Furthermore, Kookmin Daily and Hankook Ilbo reported that North Korea has warned of a 'powerful counteraction' should South Korea intrude even a millimeter into its territory, indicating heightened tensions in the region.
