South Korean Convenience Stores See Spike in Winter Product Sales

Jakarta:Sales of winter products have surged at convenience stores across South Korea as temperatures dropped significantly this month.

According to Yonhap News Agency, GS25 convenience stores, managed by GS Retail Co., experienced a dramatic rise in sales of disposable hand warmers, with figures increasing more than elevenfold in the first week of this month compared to the previous week. Similarly, sales of tights, commonly worn for warmth, showed a comparable increase.

Additionally, GS25 reported increased demand for winter snacks and beverages, with sales of instant fish cakes growing by 653 percent, baked sweet potatoes by 132 percent, and traditional tea by 50.2 percent during the same period.

CU convenience stores, operated by BGF Retail Co., also noted a substantial increase, with sales of disposable hand warmers rising by 400 percent.

An industry official commented on the trend, stating that the onset of cold weather has sharply boosted sales of both winter snacks and cold-weather gear.
