South Korean Envoy Notes Communication Challenges with White House

Washington:South Korea's top envoy to the United States has acknowledged there are limitations in communication with the White House, amid concerns over apparent friction in bilateral intelligence cooperation.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Ambassador Kang Kyung-wha made these remarks during a parliamentary audit at the South Korean Embassy in Washington. She was responding to questions about communication between Seoul and Washington.

The acknowledgment comes amid growing speculation about friction following South Korea's National Intelligence Service being excluded from a June trilateral meeting on North Korean cyber threats, which also involved Japan. Reports suggest this exclusion was at Washington's request.

Tensions in intelligence cooperation have been highlighted by South Korea's public disclosure of a North Korean uranium enrichment facility in Kusong, North Korea, by Unification Minister Chung Dong-young in March.
