South Korean Envoy Participates in G20 Summit Preparatory Meeting in Brazil

SEOUL - South Korea's designated envoy for the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) summit has attended the initial preparatory meeting in Brazil, the host country for next year's summit, the South Korean Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Ambassador for International Cooperation Song In-chang represented South Korea at the Sherpa group meeting in Brasilia, which took place from Monday to Wednesday. In the context of international conferences, a sherpa is responsible for planning and negotiating agenda items and the content of summit agreements.

At this meeting, Ambassador Song acknowledged Brazil's efforts to highlight the achievements of the G20 forum and assured that South Korea would actively contribute to the realization of these initiatives. The G20 summit is scheduled to be held in Rio de Janeiro in November 2024.

The ministry also disclosed that the next Sherpa meeting is planned to be conducted via virtual platforms in the first half of the coming year.
