PARIS – South Korean badminton players Kim Won-ho and Jeong Na-eun clinched the silver medal in mixed doubles at the Paris Olympics on Friday, after competing against the top-ranked Chinese pair in the finals.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim and Jeong faced off against China's Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong at La Chapelle Arena, losing 2-0 with scores of 21-8 and 21-11. Despite the loss, this achievement marks South Korea's first mixed doubles medal in badminton since the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where Lee Hyo-jung and Lee Yong-dae took gold.
Kim Won-ho continues a family legacy in the sport, being the son of Gil Young-ah, a three-time Olympic medalist who secured the first-ever mixed doubles gold at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. The silver medal at the Paris Olympics adds a significant milestone to his burgeoning career and the history of South Korean badminton.
