GYEONGGI - South Korean authorities have received two reports concerning trash-filled balloons launched from North Korea, which resumed its controversial balloon campaign over the weekend.
According to Yonhap News Agency, while no damage or abnormalities have been reported following the latest balloon launches on Saturday, the specifics of the balloon findings are being withheld to prevent strategic information from benefiting North Korea. This move comes after a hiatus of more than two weeks in what has been a tit-for-tat exchange, with North Korea dispatching over 3,600 such balloons since May 28 in retaliation against anti-Pyongyang leaflets distributed by defectors from the North.
In response to North Korea's provocations, South Korea has escalated its counter-propaganda efforts, broadcasting anti-Pyongyang messages daily through loudspeakers along the border since mid-July.
