Milan: Freestyle mogul skier Jung Dae-yoon concluded his run at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics by securing the 19th position in the men's moguls event. Jung managed to advance to the finals by capitalizing on his second chance, showcasing determination and skill.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jung lost his balance during the first final, ultimately earning 34.28 points at the Livigno Aerials and Moguls Park, located approximately 140 kilometers north of Milan. The competition was fierce, with only the top eight athletes and ties moving forward to the second final for a chance at medaling.
In the discipline of moguls, athletes are evaluated based on their technical turns, aerial maneuvers, and speed as they navigate a course filled with snow mounds. A panel of seven judges awards up to 100 points, with five judges focusing on turns, which account for 60 percent of the score. The remaining points are divided between the evaluation of jumps-considering form, height, distance, landing, and difficulty-and time, which is calculated through a specific formula involving pace time.
Jung, who earned a bronze medal at the 2025 World Championships, initially found himself in 27th place after the first qualification round on Tuesday. The top 10 skiers from this round advanced directly to the finals. Those who did not make it had another opportunity in the second qualification round on Thursday, where Jung finished fourth, securing his spot in the finals.
However, a misstep cost Jung a higher placement during his Winter Games debut, leaving him second from the bottom in the first final round. Despite this setback, Jung's effort and skill were evident throughout the competition, marking a significant achievement in his athletic career.
