South Korean Vice Foreign Minister and UNESCAP Head Discuss Climate Change and Sustainable Growth Initiatives

SEOUL, - Second Vice Foreign Minister Oh Young-ju met with Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, the secretary general of the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), to discuss cooperation in addressing climate change, fostering sustainable growth, and other regional challenges.

According to a news release by Yonhap News Agency, During the meeting, Oh emphasized South Korea's dedication to partnering with UNESCAP in tackling major issues such as climate change and the development of sustainable cities. Oh also detailed South Korea's efforts towards the "Carbon Free Alliance," a global initiative introduced by President Yoon Suk Yeol at the U.N. General Assembly in New York this past September. The initiative aims to adopt nuclear power and green hydrogen as future energy sources in efforts to meet carbon emission goals.

UNESCAP, a commission under the U.N. Economic and Social Council, has the mission of fostering cooperation among countries for inclusive and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region.
