SEOUL — South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission is finalizing its investigation into Chinese e-commerce giants AliExpress and Temu, with results expected to be announced soon. Ko Hak-soo, chairperson of the commission, revealed the completion of the probe during a briefing at the National Assembly on Monday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The investigation was initiated due to concerns about how these platforms manage consumer data, a growing issue as their market presence in South Korea increases. "We will present our findings at the next general meeting where a decision will be made," Ko stated. The probe was initially expected to conclude by mid-year, but faced delays due to procedural reasons and challenges related to the companies’ brief operational histories in Korea and limited business records. In April, the commission had urged AliExpress, Temu, and several other Chinese internet companies to adhere to South Korean data protection laws.
