South Korean Won Strengthens Against U.S. Dollar Amid Stock Market Volatility

Seoul:The South Korean won appreciated against the U.S. dollar on Thursday, marking its fifth consecutive session of gains.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the won was valued at 1,338.5 per dollar by 330 p.m., an increase of 1.9 won from the previous trading session's close. Earlier in the day, the won reached a high of 1,336.3 per dollar, its strongest level since September 10.

Despite the U.S. dollar's overall strength, attributed to recent U.S. Federal Reserve minutes highlighting ongoing inflation risks, the won managed to advance. Meanwhile, foreign investors sold approximately 2 trillion won (US$1.5 billion) in local shares during the most recent trading session. This sell-off contributed to a 2.62 percent decline in the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index, which closed at 6,625.93.
