Gamagori:South Korea's teenage sailor, Choi Ji-un, claimed the gold medal in the boys' dinghy sailing event at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, held at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor in Gamagori, approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Nagoya. At just 15 years old, Choi became the youngest gold medalist in the South Korean delegation at this year's Games.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this victory marks the first time since the 2014 Incheon Asian Games that South Korea has won a boys' event in sailing. Choi's performance in the final two races propelled him from fourth place to first, securing his gold medal victory. He finished first in the 11th race and second in the final race, ending with 25 points, tied with Singapore's Goh Ian, but won the tiebreaker due to higher finishes.
Goh Ian of Singapore took the silver medal, while Cheng de Villemor Salgado Tiago of Hong Kong earned the bronze. The scoring system in dinghy sailing involves assigning points equal to the finishing positions and penalties in each race. Sailors can discard their worst two scores after 12 races to determine the winner.
The boys' and girls' dinghy events at the Asian Games are designed to promote young talent in sailing. South Korea had also won the gold medal in the men's dinghy event the day before Choi's victory.
