Seoul:South Korea's Ministry of Data and Statistics announced plans to merge two institutes under its jurisdiction as part of the government's initiative to reduce the number of public institutions by 20 percent.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the ministry will consolidate the Korea Statistical Information Institute and the Korea Statistics Promotion Institute into a new agency. This entity will support statistics-based policymaking in South Korea.
Earlier this month, the government revealed a broad restructuring plan for public institutions, which includes merges among various sectors such as energy suppliers. The goal is to decrease the total number of public institutions from 524 to 415.
The data ministry intends to establish a legal framework for the new agency, ensuring the transfer of rights and responsibilities from the existing institutes. The ministry emphasized its commitment to working closely with the two organizations to ensure a smooth transition and timely launch of the new body.
