SEOUL — On the 71st anniversary of the Korean War armistice, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo declared that South Korea will not tolerate any provocations from North Korea, emphasizing a stance of resilience and cooperation with global allies.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Han stressed the importance of maintaining strong defenses in collaboration with international partners such as the United States and Japan. The Prime Minister highlighted recent provocations from North Korea, including the launching of ballistic missiles and the sending of trash-carrying balloons over the border, which have further strained relations between the two Koreas. Han’s firm stance on these provocations comes amid increased tensions, marked by South Korea’s responses including broadcasting anti-Pyongyang messages along the border.
Furthermore, Han reiterated the openness to dialogue with North Korea, conditional upon Pyongyang’s cessation of its nuclear activities and military threats. His remarks underscore South Korea’s dual approach of readiness to defend against threats while also seeking stability in Northeast Asia through diplomatic efforts involving both Japan and China.
