SPC Group Chairman Indicted for Anti-Labor Practices

SEOUL – The chairman of South Korea's bakery giant SPC Group, Hur Young-in, was formally indicted on Sunday for allegedly coercing employees to relinquish their union memberships, as confirmed by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hur, along with 17 other individuals, was charged with unfair labor practices, specifically targeting around 570 union members at an SPC subsidiary. These employees were allegedly pressured to disassociate from the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, known for its militant stance within the country’s labor movement. Following these charges, the Seoul Central District Court issued an arrest warrant for the 74-year-old chairman on April 5, citing potential risks of evidence tampering.
