Seoul: Chiefs of South Korean big tech companies, including Samsung Electronics, engaged in discussions with Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia Corp., to explore potential cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI) and other technological fields.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung, and Lee Hae-jin, founder of South Korea's leading portal operator Naver, visited Nvidia's headquarters for this meeting. The discussions reportedly focused on cooperation and investment plans between Nvidia and South Korean corporations, although specific details of the conversations were not immediately disclosed.
Earlier, Huang also met with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won to further business collaboration. These engagements are part of a larger initiative where South Korean business leaders accompany President Lee Jae Myung, who is on a mission to promote the nation's AI vision and foster business ties with global tech giants during his visit to South America.
As part of the visit, the South Korean leaders attended a summit organized by the South Korean government, featuring prominent global tech executives like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan. This follows Huang's visit to South Korea in June, where he interacted with top executives from AI-focused companies such as Samsung Electronics, SK hynix Inc., Hyundai Motor Group, LG Group, and Naver Corp.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix are pivotal suppliers to Nvidia and other AI enterprises, while Hyundai Motor Group is making strides in physical AI with its robotics subsidiary, Boston Dynamics. During a meeting with President Lee, Huang announced several major collaborative projects with South Korean tech firms, including a $500 billion business partnership with SK Group.
Huang also revealed plans for a joint development of a self-driving Genesis sedan with Hyundai Motor Group and a significant investment in Naver to bolster its domestic and international presence. Additionally, Nvidia intends to forge partnerships with SK hynix Inc. and Samsung Electronics, focusing on chip and memory design.
