Trump and Xi Reaffirm Commitment to Denuclearize North Korea

Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have jointly reaffirmed their commitment to the denuclearization of North Korea during their recent summit talks in Beijing, as reported by the White House in a fact sheet released on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the summit, which took place on Thursday and Friday in the Chinese capital, covered a wide array of critical issues such as security concerns on the Korean Peninsula, the status of Taiwan, the ongoing U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, and matters of bilateral trade. In an interesting development, sources revealed on Wednesday that President Xi Jinping is likely to visit North Korea as early as next week, with a high-ranking government official confirming to Yonhap News Agency, "We have obtained intelligence indicating that President Xi Jinping will visit North Korea soon."

In a related note, a senior South Korean official mentioned on Wednesday that there does not appear to be any special contact between the United States and North Korea at the moment. This statement comes amid ongoing speculation about President Trump's potential efforts to revive his personal diplomacy with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Following his trip to Beijing, Trump informed reporters that he has communicated with Kim, describing their relationship as "very good," though he did not provide further details on the nature of these communications.
