Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a peace agreement with Iran is "largely" negotiated, pending finalization. The agreement is set to include the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments, as part of the deal with the Islamic Republic. According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump shared the development in a social media post, emphasizing that the final details of the agreement are being worked out and will be revealed soon. He noted that the deal involves multiple countries alongside the United States and Iran. Trump stated, "An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed." He further mentioned that discussions are ongoing regarding the final aspects and details of the deal, which will be announced shortly. In addition to other elements, the agreement will ensure the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The announcem ent followed what Trump described as a "very good" conversation with leaders and senior officials from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain concerning Iran and a memorandum of understanding on peace with Tehran. Additionally, he had a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This development comes amid increased pressure from Trump's administration on Iran to reach a peace agreement, with the potential for a bombing campaign against Iran looming if diplomatic efforts do not succeed. In an earlier interview with Axios, Trump expressed a "solid 50-50" chance of either achieving a "good" deal with Iran or resorting to military action. Earlier in the week, Trump had announced a decision to postpone a planned attack on Iran, which was scheduled for Tuesday. He warned that the U.S. could proceed with a "full, large-scale" assault on Iran if an acceptable deal is not reached with Iran and other Middle Eastern countries.
