Trump Expresses Doubts Over Meeting Kim Jong-un in China

Shenzhen:Washington U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday expressed uncertainty about the possibility of meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in China next month, stating he was not sure whether anyone had requested such a meeting.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made these remarks when questioned by a reporter about his expectations for a meeting with Kim during his planned participation in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in China, scheduled for November 18-19 in Shenzhen.

The president emphasized his personal ties with the North Korean leader, saying, "I get along with him very well," and noting his good relationship with Kim Jong-un. Trump's comments come after his statement in August expressing hope to meet Kim later this year, which fueled speculation about a potential rekindling of personal diplomacy that previously led to three bilateral meetings between the two leaders.

Last Monday, Trump mentioned the possibility of meeting Kim during his upcoming trip to Asia, describing it as potentially "exciting." Meanwhile, Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the State Department, stated that Trump does not view talks with North Korea as a "concession" and is open to engaging with Pyongyang if it aligns with U.S. national interests.
