Seoul: U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Michelle Steel has met with her Japanese counterpart, highlighting the importance of sustained trilateral cooperation among Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo, as revealed through a social media post by the U.S. envoy on Tuesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Steel shared on X that she engaged in "a thoughtful conversation with Japanese Ambassador Mizushima Koichi on the opportunities ahead" for trilateral collaboration among the United States, South Korea, and Japan. She emphasized that ongoing coordination among the three nations would contribute to advancing their collective vision for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.
This meeting marks the first public disclosure of Steel's interactions with other ambassadors to South Korea since she assumed her role last month. In addition to her meeting with the Japanese envoy, Steel also held discussions with Canadian Ambassador to South Korea Philippe Lafortune and Israeli Ambassador to South Korea Rafael Harpaz.
Regarding her meeting with Ambassador Lafortune, Steel expressed her satisfaction in discussing shared priorities in Korea, reiterating the commitment of the U.S. and Canada to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. During her dialogue with the Israeli ambassador, Steel conveyed her anticipation of continuing discussions on issues of mutual interest.
