U.S. Highlights Trump, Xi’s Shared Goal of Denuclearizing North Korea Ahead of Xi’s Pyongyang Trip

Washington: The State Department announced that U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed their shared objective of denuclearizing North Korea during their summit in Beijing last month. This development comes as Xi is scheduled to visit Pyongyang next week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Xi plans to visit North Korea on Monday and Tuesday, marking his first trip to the country since 2019. In response to inquiries, a State Department spokesperson conveyed that "In Beijing, President Trump and President Xi confirmed their shared goal to denuclearize North Korea."

The statement suggests the Trump administration's expectation for Xi to contribute to bringing North Korea back to dialogue and promoting progress towards denuclearization. On Thursday, the State Department reiterated the Trump administration's willingness to engage in dialogue with Pyongyang "without preconditions" and emphasized its commitment to the "complete" denuclearization of North Korea.
