Seoul: The U.S. military announced its awareness of North Korea's missile launch this week and reaffirmed its commitment to the defense of regional allies. This announcement came through a statement made on Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the U.S. Pacific Command released a statement following South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff report that Pyongyang had launched an unidentified projectile toward the East Sea. The command emphasized its ongoing consultations with allies and partners regarding the situation.
The statement clarified that current assessments indicate the launch does not pose an immediate threat to U.S. personnel, territory, or allies. The United States reiterated its dedication to defending both the U.S. homeland and its allies in the region.
The missile launch by North Korea occurred just a day after the conclusion of the five-day trilateral Freedom Edge exercise conducted by Seoul, Washington, and Tokyo in international waters off South Korea's southern island of Jeju.
