Seoul: A Ukrainian delegation led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov is expected to arrive in Seoul and engage in discussions with President Yoon Suk Yeol as early as Wednesday, sources familiar with the matter revealed. The visit is anticipated to focus on intelligence sharing regarding North Korea’s troop deployment to Russia, and to seek South Korea’s support for Ukraine’s ongoing war efforts.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this anticipated visit follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s announcement about a month ago regarding plans to send a delegation to South Korea. This announcement was made during a phone conversation with President Yoon. In response to the evolving geopolitical situation, Yoon has indicated that South Korea might consider providing arms support to Ukraine, contingent upon the level of military cooperation between Pyongyang and Moscow.
President Zelenskyy has consistently highlighted Ukraine’s critical need for anti-aircraft missiles and artillery systems to effectively co
unter Russian threats. On Tuesday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha expressed his expectations for South Korea to collaborate closely with Ukraine, particularly in sharing information related to military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang.
