ULSAN — Ulsan HD FC, the two-time defending champions of South Korea's K League 1, proudly announced the signing of veteran midfielder Jung Woo-young from Al-Khaleej in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday. This transfer marks a significant return for Jung, who hails from Ulsan and began his football career in the city.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jung, aged 34, brings a wealth of experience to Ulsan, having earned 74 caps for the South Korean national team and competed in the last two FIFA World Cup tournaments. Despite his extensive career abroad, including stints in Japan, China, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, this season will be Jung's first in the K League. His role as a defensive midfielder, with the capability to also play as a center back, arrives at a crucial time as Ulsan strives to secure their third consecutive championship, especially following the recent appointment of their head coach, Hong Myung-bo, as the new head coach of the South Korean national team. Currently, Ulsan is second in the league, trailing Gimcheon Sangmu FC by a single point.
