Seoul: Unification Minister Chung Dong-young on Thursday proposed an initiative led by the European Union (EU) to help the two Koreas resume dialogue and cross-border exchanges that have remained frozen for years. In a meeting with a visiting European Parliament delegation in Seoul, Chung expressed hope for the establishment of a "2+1 multilateral dialogue framework" led by the EU and participated by the two Koreas.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Chung suggested that a visit to Pyongyang by a European Parliament delegation could be pursued in the near future. The visiting delegation was led by Cesar Luena of Spain and comprised 11 lawmakers from five political parties.
Chung highlighted that Seoul's Lee Jae Myung administration opposes an absorption-style unification model similar to that of Germany, describing it as "neither possible nor desirable." While explaining the government's peaceful coexistence policy toward North Korea, he stated that the government will "gradually, step-by-step, and peacefully pursue the integration of the national community."
