Seoul:Victor Reyes of the Lotte Giants has made history by setting a new Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) record with 211 hits in a single season, leading the league in hits for the third straight year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the Venezuelan switch hitter secured his record in a game against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Seoul, by collecting four hits, including a solo home run. Reyes surpassed his previous record of 202 hits, set in 2024, and became the first foreign player in KBO history to lead the league in hits for three consecutive seasons.
Choi Won-jun of the KT Wiz had reached 203 hits earlier, but Reyes ultimately outpaced him. Choi concluded his season with 208 hits after Monday’s game. Reyes expressed his happiness about setting the record and his satisfaction with finishing the season in good health.
Reyes, who just turned 32, has consistently played all 144 games each season since joining the Giants in 2024, totaling 432 games. This achievement, along with recording 600 hits over three seasons, is a source of pride for him. He credits his success to his hard work during the offseason.
During Monday's games, both Reyes and Choi showcased their skills in different ballparks. Choi, playing against the Samsung Lions in Daegu, accumulated three hits, while Reyes maintained his lead with strategic hits, including a home run and a single, ensuring his record-setting night.
Reyes was focused on his performance rather than Choi's, and after the game, he congratulated Choi on his successful season. After his final hit, Reyes acknowledged the support of the Doosan Bears' fans with a bow, showing appreciation for their cheers.
Looking ahead, Reyes is not prioritizing breaking his own record next season. His main focus remains on staying healthy to continue contributing to his team's success, expressing his desire to remain with the Giants, who he says have treated him like family.
